DHS orders federal agencies to remove DeepSeek products

The Department of Homeland Security has ordered US civilian federal agencies to remove DeepSeek products, including third-party products built using DeepSeek, and to stop buying them. The order warns that using DeepSeek's apps "may result in the transfer of sensitive data to the PRC if used by U.S. government employees or vendors." Its original release date is July 24, 2026; it was filed publicly on Oct 19 and published in the Federal Register on Oct 20. Agencies can request exceptions within 60 days.
